Western Carolina University senior Aubree Payne recently returned from a five-month study abroad program at Chukyo University in Nagoya, Japan.

Growing up, Payne developed an interest in Asian pop culture and has always enjoyed learning about the people there. In the summer of 2016, she studied in South Korea and loved it.

The Clean Slate Coalition is a local organization located in Webster. This organization provides supportive and safe transitional housing and vocational opportunities. At the Clean Slate Coalition, six women are housed who work daily on creating organic cleaning supplies and learning healthy life skills.

Western Carolina University has its own Equestrian Club. The club is intended as a place where fans of horseback riding with all different amounts of experience can bond over a mutual love of the sport. Under the leadership of Coach Julia Collins, the team meets to practice riding, compete with other teams in the area, perform community service and form lasting friendships.

Dr. Winford Gordon (or Windy, depending on the closeness of your relationship with him) is an individual with a rich history that goes above and beyond academics. He grew up in Charleston, S.C., but considers himself a North Carolinian, seeing as he spent all but two years since 1977 in the Carolina’s northern half.

During his college career at Wofford University in Spartanburg, S.C., Dr. Gordon became hooked on C2, a two-person kayak/canoe generally taken on whitewater.
