The holiday season brings about family traditions that are unique to each; however, one that seems to be consistent across the board are gift-giving traditions. Brown paper packages tied up with strings tend to be many people’s favorite things on Christmas morning.

During the gift-giving season it can be challenging to find the perfect gift for your loved ones, especially in more rural areas. However, the opportunities to find the perfect gift are abundant in the North Carolina mountains.

With the second full week of November came International Education Week, which featured three or more events each day focusing on International Education. Events included screenings of films, cultural presentations, study abroad information sessions and other presentations on topics like disabilities and environmental sustainability on Western Carolina University’s campus.

Every Monday until Thursday after 5 p.m., the Jackson County Veterans Association (JCVA) will be hanging out in Reid Gymnasium. They are dedicated to providing a sanctuary for those who have served in the military. Students and individuals from the community are welcome to join.

The Honors College at Western Carolina University is the oldest and one of the largest Honors College systems in North Carolina. Founded in 1997, the Honors College has provided a strong learning community here at Western Carolina.
